My fellow luthiers,

I have held back on posting information regarding Tiger Myrtle, Blackwood etc until I grappled with learning how to build a new web page. I think that has been achieved to a greater degree so I would welcome you all to try out my new web site and let me know if anything is lacking or not working.

Regarding Tiger Myrtle I have been able to recover with the assistance of my tonewood saw miller several Myrtle trees logs/partial logs with evidence of the tiger figure. Given that the trees are usually rotten in the middle and there is a need to saw slightly off the quarter to get the preferred figure recovery is varied.As is the case with all highly desireable figured woods, Tiger Myrtle is difficult to find in the best of times so anything that I have to offer comes via a lot of sweat and hard work.

I would anticipate that set supplies will be limited but I will endeavour to offer members of the OLF first bite of the cherry. Currently I have about 4 sets with another 10 sets on offer in about 6 months. In the medium term the annual number may increase slightly to about 20-30 sets if the recovery program works out well.

I am also keen to have an independent opinion on the tone. I think it is very good but it is always good to hear it from someone else. The tap tone at typical set thicknesses seems to be higher than Tas Blackwood. Sustain has some variation so the choice of tops will be important.
